Assessment Session

Your first appointment will be a 90-minute assessment session.

This appointment aims to understand your current challenges and their context, as well as gather some relevant background information. It also allows you and your therapist to determine if there is a ‘good fit' or if it would be better for you to see a different therapist, work differently, or be referred to a different service.

Adults

We work 1:1 with adults and older teenagers.
We will liase with your GP and other providers if needed. [with your permission].

We usually encourage including a dietitian in your treatment and can refer you  to several that we work closely with.

We usually like to include parents/guardians in the treatment plan.

We typically work with the young person and their parents if weight recovery is required. This involves parent/joint sessions and individual sessions with the young person.

Parent sessions support parents to refeed their child and help them understand and navigate their child’s behaviours and distress.

We require weight monitoring by a GP or paediatrician and usually dietitian input. Unfortunately, due to the constraints of private practice, we do not work with young people who are significantly physically unwell.

Individual 1:1 sessions with the young person to support them, help them manage their distress, and start to address any underlying psychological difficulties.
We work based on a new and emerging treatment model called Adolescent Parent Treatment [APT]. This brings together the research evidence base for family treatment and individual therapy to allow the young person to fully recover physically and psychologically from the eating disorder.
Both Louise and Jessica are APT trained.
If weight recovery is not required, we may work primarily individually. However, parents are regularly given feedback on treatment focus and progress.

For other groups, we are planning in 2023
